VINTON ANIMATORS MAKE IT AN EMMY SWEEP
PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Will Vinton animators said

today that they are batting three for three when it comes to Emmy Awards for "Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation." This Sunday, Aug. 30, Vinton master animator John Ashlee Prat will receive his award during the national broadcast of the 44th Annual Emmy Awards on the Fox Network at 8 p.m. (EDT/PDT).
Prat is the third animator from the Portland-based studio to win the award, an award that has been given only three times. Two others from Vinton's studio, Teresa Drilling and Jeff Mulcaster, walked off with the award last year. It was the first time the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) had ever honored individual achievement in animation.
In addition, the Will Vinton CBS special, "A Claymation Easter," has also been nominated for "Best Animated Program One Hour or Less." The show aired on CBS during prime time this past April. It told the offbeat story of a scheming pig who tries to impersonate the Easter bunny. The award will be announced Saturday, Aug. 29.
In announcing the individual achievement award, ATAS Judge Mark Glamack said, "It's a very special award because the decision from the jury must be unanimous. Winning the individual achievement award is a mark of true excellence in the art of animation."
Glamack noted the historic significance that only Will Vinton animators have received this honor. Will Vinton also had praise for his staff of award-winning animators. "They have the unique ability to breathe personality and life into inanimate objects. This is the extraordinary creativity that makes the animated film come to life. I'm pleased that the Academy has recognized this special skill."
Will Vinton Studios, known for its dimensional animation and especially for a trademarked technique known as Claymation(R), is no stranger to awards. In 1988, the studio won an Emmy for "Outstanding Animated Program" for the CBS special, "A Claymation Christmas Celebration." It also won an Emmy for "Outstanding Visual Effects," crafted for a sequence in the hit television series "Moonlighting." The Studios' television specials have also received several Emmy nominations.
