       VIKONICS APPOINTS ARTHUR SWEENEY TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
    TETERBORO, N.J., July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Vikonics Inc. (NASDAQ: VKSI), headquartered here, today announced it had appointed business executive and retired U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Arthur H. Sweeney Jr. to the company's board of directors.
    Sweeney, whose career with the U.S. Army spanned almost four decades and included numerous top-level command positions, has served since 1978 in executive positions with Reynolds International Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Reynolds Metals Co., an integrated manufacturer of aluminum and plastic products based in Richmond, Va.
    According to Vikonics' President John L. Kaufman, Sweeney will assist the company in the areas of business development and corporate management.  "We are pleased to add Gen. Sweeney to our board.  His extensive background in both military and corporate affairs will be an invaluable resource to the company; we look forward to receiving his input on security and financial matters and contributions to Vikonics' growth in the years ahead."
    From 1982 through 1991, Sweeney served as general director and vice president of corporate development and planning at Reynolds International during the period the company was engaged in major restructuring of its worldwide business activities.  During the preceding four years, he served as special assistant to the chairman of the board.
    From 1976 to 1978, Sweeney was deputy chief of staff of logistics, U.S. Army Forces Command, which was responsible for the 550,000 Army combat and supporting forces stationed in the United States.  Prior to that, he served as commanding general of the U.S. Army Material Management Agency in Europe (1974-1976), commanding general of the White Sands National Missile Range, N.M. (1972-1974), and commanding general of the U.S. Army Support Commands, Qui Nhon and Danang in the northern military regions of South Vietnam (1970- 1972).
    Sweeney had three major command assignments between 1965 and 1970 in which he was responsible for multimillion dollar research and development programs and the procurement of weapons and vehicles. During his tenure in the Army, which began in 1942, Sweeney received numerous awards and decorations, including two Distinguished Service Medals, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm and the Vietnam Army Distinguished Service Order.
    Sweeney received his masters of business administration from Harvard Business School in 1947 and a bachelor of sciences degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1942.  He currently resides in Richmond with his wife, Veronica, and remains active as a consultant to Reynolds International.
    Vikonics designs, manufactures, markets, installs and supports a line of sophisticated, computer-based security systems.  The company markets its systems to defense contractors and government agencies as well as general commercial customers in the Middle East and across the globe.
