VIEWSIM TO RECEIVE SIGN-OFF CERTIFICATION FROM LEADING ASIC VENDORS

MARLBORO, Mass., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Viewlogic Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: VIEW) today announced that it is working closely with several leading ASIC vendors to define and develop sign-off qualification of ASIC design kits using its ViewSim(tm) digital simulator. The first round of ViewSim sign-off qualification is currently in progress with AT&T, Mitsubishi, and another leading ASIC vendor. Additional ASIC vendors, including AMI and Phillips, have plans to deliver sign-off kits for Viewlogic later this year.
The initial ViewSim sign-off simulation support is the result of a focused campaign by Viewlogic to address customers' high-end sub-micron ASIC design requirements. Viewlogic entered into collaborative relationships with these key ASIC suppliers in order to define and develop design kits capable of providing users with sub-micron accuracy for ASIC design.
"With these up-coming sign-off certifications, Viewlogic will deliver to its high-end ASIC customers the security that is coupled with using one of the most accurate design kits available from their preferred ASIC vendors," said Gene Robinson, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Viewlogic. "In deciding to work with Viewlogic, these vendors are displaying their commitment to truly addressing the needs of high-end ASIC designers," added Robinson.
The sign-off design kits are being developed with a focus on sub- micron accuracy. The modeling methods used include a combination of structural and VHDL implementations to take advantage of ViewSim's multi-level simulation capabilities. Mitsubishi has separated the functional and timing models to make these libraries easily upgradeable as new ASIC technologies are released. The new Mitsubishi libraries will be done automatically from a master file of timing data for all of the library cells. ViewSim, one of the most widely-used simulators in the world, is Viewlogic's comprehensive, high-performance, high- capacity, full-timing simulator for ASIC systems, and integrated circuit (IC) design.
The first round of technologies slated to be certified for sign-off on ViewSim include:
 -- LP/HS9000 0.9 micron CMOS and LP/HS6000 0.6 micron CMOS standard cells from AT&T.
-- M6007X and M6008X 0.8 micron CMOS gate array and embedded cell array technologies from Mitsubishi.
-- AT&T and Mitsubishi currently have design kits in beta with the release planned for the third quarter of this year.
