VIEWLOGIC STRENGTHENS PRESENCE IN JAPAN
VIEWLOGIC STRENGTHENS PRESENCE IN JAPAN MARLBORO, Mass., July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Viewlogic Systems, Inc.
(NASDAQ: VIEW) announced today that it has significantly strengthened its position in the Japanese market for electronic design automation (EDA) products through a new two year agreement with Marubeni Hytech. The agreement, with revenue value to Viewlogic in excess of $14 million, represents an annualized increase in sales of more than 50 percent over last year.
The new agreement appoints Marubeni Hytech as Viewlogic's exclusive distributor in Japan. In addition, Viewlogic gains the right to sell direct and retains the right to sell through the OEMs in its unique Silicon Design Alliance and Printed Circuit Board Design Alliance programs. This OEM distribution strategy is enabling Viewlogic to become the de facto design standard for design engineering applications. "This new agreement with Marubeni reflects the significant increase in growth it is experiencing with Viewlogic products," said Gene Robinson, Viewlogic's senior vice president of sales and marketing. "This is especially gratifying in view of the flat sales some of our competitors are coping with. That doesn't just mean more market share for Viewlogic, it means the Japanese user is choosing Viewlogic over the other, older architectures." Mr. Y. Morita, executive vice president of Marubeni Hytech, said, "We are delighted not only to renew our agreement with Viewlogic, but to expand it. We have always been close partners and this agreement helps bring us even closer. "Viewlogic products are in high demand in Japan due to their functionality, adherence to standards, and their ability to operate on a wide range of platforms, including UNIX- and DOS-based computing platforms. Powerview(tm), Viewlogic's recently introduced standards- based UNIX-workstation product family makes all this even better. Frankly, the initial reaction of our customers to Powerview has been outstanding. At a recent Powerview seminar in Tokyo, we had standing room only," said Morita. Viewlogic is the only EDA vendor that provides multiple methods for users to acquire and benefit from its products and services without channel conflict. In Japan, Viewlogic will concentrate its direct sales efforts on segments of the market not presently being serviced, while continuing to work closely with fully supporting Marubeni Hytech in the segments they cover. Marubeni Hytech Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Marubeni Corporation, which is one of the largest trading companies in the world. Marubeni Hytech specializes in marketing and selling electric and computer-related products worldwide and had been acting as an exclusive distributor of Viewlogic Systems in Japan since 1986. Founded in 1984, Viewlogic Systems, Inc., is a worldwide supplier of electronic design automation solutions. Viewlogic's software for UNIX- and DOS-based computing platforms, combined with its broad range of support services, enables electrical engineers to design state-of-the- art electronic products more efficiently, reducing development cost and speeding time to market. The company, whose common stock is publicly traded on NASDAQ under the symbol VIEW, had 1991 revenues of $42.1 million, up 38 percent compared to 1990; net income more than doubled over the same period, to $2.9 million. -0- 7/16/92 /CONTACT: Tony Greene of Viewlogic, 508-480-0881/ (VIEW) CO: Viewlogic Systems ST: Massachusetts IN: CPR SU:
