VIEWLOGIC INTRODUCES FIRST COMPLETE SUITE OF ELECTRONIC DESIGN TOOLS
FOR USE ON PCS WITH MICROSOFT WINDOWS
(Electronica Exposition) MUNICH, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Viewlogic Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: VIEW) today announced the first complete suite of electronic design automation tools for use on personal computers running under Microsoft's Windows(tm) 3.1 operating environment.
Viewlogic's Workview PLUS on Windows provides a unique combination of design performance and flexibility for electrical engineers. In addition to providing PC users with a familiar user interface, Workview provides the first DOS-based framework providing the infrastructure for high-performance solutions to designers.
Workview PLUS on Windows offers a standardized modular architecture enhanced for easy tool integration, whether third-party or in-house. Through enhanced capabilities in its design entry, simulation, and analysis modules, Workview PLUS provides electrical engineers with high- performance tools for PLD, IC, ASIC, and system design more commonly associated with design automation solutions running on UNIX-based workstations.
"Designers faced with rapidly changing technology and shorter product development cycles, are seeking to solve their problems with a growing number of design tools. The need for EDA vendors to deliver tighter integration and seamless interoperability between these tools is critical. We are delivering this capability as part of our commitment to our users," said Gene Robinson, Viewlogic's senior vice president of sales and marketing.
Workview PLUS on Windows is completely compatible with Powerview, Viewlogic's UNIX-based design environment, and with the current version of Workview for DOS-based systems. This compatibility allows engineers to preserve their investment in tools and hardware through a heterogeneous environment of UNIX and DOS-based systems.
Major enhancements to the tool modules within Workview PLUS on Windows include:
ViewSim -- Viewlogic's simulator has full VHDL support for the PC along with circuit-level optimization, to ease analog design analysis. Two other capabilities, save and restore and incremental net listing, greatly reduce the design loop time.
View Trace -- Viewlogic's waveform analysis tool includes streaming mixed-signal waveforms, enhanced digital editing, cross probing to schematics, and many other time-saving features.
ViewDraw -- Viewlogic's schematic entry tool offers the most advanced feature set in the industry today. Advance attribute control, and gesturing (recognition of mouse movement), speeds design entry by reducing the amount of interaction with the system. A context-sensitive draw mode that anticipates the designers next move further decreases schematic entry time.
ViewFrame -- In its initial release, the CFI-like capabilities contained in Workview PLUS on Windows are execution logging and extension language functionality. Future releases will also accommodate the tool encapsulation specification and inter-tool communications. CFI is an industry group working to specify a framework standard that will allow the integration of multiple vendors tools to operate in a single environment. Viewlogic led the industry by incorporating several proposed CFI standards in its UNIX-based Powerview(tm) design automation offering, introduced earlier this year. Availability and Pricing
Viewlogic's Workview PLUS on Windows will be available in January 1993. Minimum system requirements are a 386-PC equipped with 12 megabytes of RAM and 100 MB disk. Pricing for Workview PLUS on Windows begins at $7,500.
Founded in 1984, Viewlogic Systems, Inc., is a worldwide supplier of electronic design automation solutions. Viewlogic's software for UNIX- and DOS-based platforms, combined with its broad range of support services, enables electrical engineers to design state-of-the-art electronic products more efficiently, reducing development cost and speeding time to market. The company, whose common stock is traded publicly on NASDAQ under the symbol VIEW, had 1991 revenues on $42.1 million, up 38 percent compared to 1990; net income more than doubled over the same period, to $2.9 million.
