VIEWLOGIC ANNOUNCES INTEGRATION OF ANALOGY'S SABER SIMULATOR INTO ITS POWERVIEW AND SIMBUS ENVIRONMENTS

MARLBORO, Mass., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Viewlogic Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: VIEW) today announced that Analogy Inc.'s Saber simulator has been fully integrated into Viewlogic's Powerview(TM) UNIX-based electronic design automation (EDA) environment and its SimBus(TM) simulation backplane. These integrations enable electronics designers to create for the first time a unified, standards-based analog and digital simulation environment by combining the leading VHDL simulator, Vantage Spreadsheet(TM), with the leading AHDL simulator, Saber.
Powerview is built on Viewlogic's OpenFrame(TM) framework, the only CFI (CAD Framework Initiative) compliant framework available today. This gives designers complete freedom to mix-and-match best-in-class tools from any source to create a design environment optimized for their specific application requirements.
SimBus is the EDA industry's most comprehensive simulation environment, enabling engineers to concurrently simulate designs using multiple simulators, regardless of their origin or specialization. SimBus flexibly addresses EDA technology and modeling dynamics by offering a powerful simulation backplane which functions as a "super-simulator."
 Delivering Standards and Performance
Saber uses the MAST analog hardware description language (AHDL), the industry's de facto standard analog language. MAST allows designers to model any combination of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic or other physics-based technologies from primitive to behavioral levels -- all within one language.
"Viewlogic is again making high-performance, standards-based electronic design solutions a practical reality," said Gene Robinson, Viewlogic's senior vice president of marketing and sales. "Designers in the automotive and aerospace industries, among others, will quickly benefit from the integration of Saber into our rich Powerview and SimBus environments."
"We're delighted that Viewlogic has integrated Saber into Powerview and SimBus," said Doug Johnson, Analogy's vice president of marketing and sales. "The integration of Analogy's and Viewlogic's products will make it easier for designers to incorporate Saber in the context of their own environment and methodology."
Viewlogic's Saber integration includes more than 1,000 primitives that enable its ViewDraw(TM) design entry software to be used as a graphical modeling tool with the MAST language. Viewlogic is packaging its Saber integration with its ViewDraw and ViewTrace(TM) tools, a graphical modeling library and the Powerview environment to create a comprehensive Powerview AHDL Solution. Pricing for this solution is $20K and it will be available in the fourth quarter of 1993.
Integration of Saber into SimBus allows arbitrary use of VHDL and MAST co-simulating the two languages into one environment. The integration is accomplished through a SimBus STI, which can be purchased from Viewlogic for $5,000.
Analogy Inc., founded in January 1985, is a world leader in analog and mixed analog-digital and mixed technology design and simulation. Analogy currently offers the industry's de facto standard analog hardware description language: MAST. Analogy has offices and support staff throughout the United States, Europe and Asia and is headquartered in Beaverton, Ore.
Founded in 1984, Viewlogic Systems, Inc. is a worldwide supplier of electronic design automation solutions. Viewlogic's uniquely open, industry standards-based design framework, its software for UNIX- and DOS/Windows-based computing platforms, and its broad range of support services enable electrical engineers to design state-of-the-art electronic products more efficiently, reducing development cost and speeding time-to-market.
