VIEWLOGIC ADDS VHDL SIMULATION, SYNTHESIS TO LOW-COST PRO SERIES EDA PRODUCT LINE; NEW MODULES CREATE FIRST WINDOWS TOP-DOWN DESIGN SOLUTION

 MARLBORO, Mass., Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Viewlogic Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: VIEW) today announced Microsoft Windows(TM)-based VHDL simulation and synthesis tools for its low-cost PRO Series(TM) electronic design automation (EDA) product family. With the addition of the PROvhdl(TM) and PROsynthesis(TM) modules, Viewlogic creates the EDA industry's first low-cost, fully-integrated Windows-based top-down design solution for FPGA and CPLD design.

 PROvhdl is a powerful, production-proven IEEE 1076 VHDL-compliant digital simulator. It extends the gate-level simulation capabilities of Viewlogics' PROsim package to RTL and behavioral level simulation. PROvhdl excels at interactive model development, enabling engineers to quickly iterate and perfect their designs. Combined with Viewlogic's PROcapture and PROsim, PROvhdl forms a multi-level simulation package, offering back-annotation to PROcapture. Customers can purchase PROvhdl as a stand-alone module or fully integrated with other PRO Series tools. PROvhdl is priced at $1,995 making it the lowest priced VHDL simulator on the market today.
 PROsynthesis is a powerful VHDL synthesis tool that offers state-of-the-art functionality with the ease of use of a native Microsoft Windows application. PROsynthesis takes in a VHDL description and produces a gate-level representation targeted to a specific FPGA or CPLD family. PROsynthesis removes previous barriers to achieving optimum silicon utilization in increasingly complex FPGAs through incorporation of FPGA architecture-specific algorithms. The result is a turn-key, integrated design solution from the initial VHDL description through vendor-specific place and route functions. PROsynthesis will support libraries to the following vendor's FPGAs and CPLDs: Actel, Altera, Atmel, AT&T, Crosspoint, Cypress, Intel, Lattice, Motorola, Quicklogic, TI and Xilinx. Schematics can automatically be generated from the synthesis output results with PROgen, which is included in the PROsynthesis product. Customers can purchase PROsynthesis as a stand-alone module or fully integrated with other PROseries tools. Pricing for PROsynthesis is $4,995.

 Don Faria, director of marketing and product planning for development tools at Altera, noted that as the logic capacity for high-density PLDs continues to increase, now exceeding 12,000 gates, designers are migrating toward top-down design methodologies. To meet these needs, Altera and Viewlogic have worked closely to insure that PROsynthesis is tightly coupled with Altera's MAX+PLUS II compiler, and together produce optimum logic capacity and performance results for designs targeted to Altera programmable logic devices.
