VIEWLOGIC "POWERPARTNERS" PR0GRAM OFFERS EDA VENDORS CFI-BASED FRAMEWORK TECHNOLOGY; TWENTY-NINE EDA VENDORS SIGN ON AS POWERPARTNERS

 MARLBORO, Mass., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Viewlogic Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: VIEW) today announced an innovative program designed to speed and simplify tight integration of third-party design tools into Viewlogic's OpenFrame(tm). OpenFrame is the electronic design automation (EDA) industry's only native implementation of the CFI (CAD Framework Initiative) framework specifications and the only framework to provide support for UNIX workstations, and Windows and Windows NT personal computers.
 The program, called PowerPartners(tm), is a technology program that enables design tool vendors and end-users to quickly and easily integrate their software into OpenFrame. Under the program, PowerPartners use the same technology and tools that Viewlogic's engineers use to build Powerview, Viewlogic's UNIX-based family of high- performance design tools for ASIC, IC and system design. Viewlogic created the program in response to requests by EDA software vendors for access to Viewlogic's framework technology.
 Viewlogic becomes the first EDA vendor to offer its core framework technology as an off-the-shelf product to others. "With PowerPartners, we're not just providing an open door or a simple connection, we're giving them the keys to the castle," said Gene Robinson, Viewlogic's senior vice president of sales and marketing. "Some EDA vendors with proprietary environments offer third parties insulated access to their frameworks," Robinson noted.
 Twenty-nine EDA vendors have enrolled in the PowerPartners program as charter members: Actel, Altera, ALTIUM, AMI, Aptix, Aspect, Atmel, AT&T, CADIS, Cascade, Cypress Semiconductor, Digital Equipment, EPIC, Harris EDA, HLD, i-Logic, Intel, ISS, Knowledge Based Systems, Lattice Semiconductor, LMC, MSI, Quicklogic, Racal Redac, Silvar Lisco, SMOS Systems, ViewPoint, Xilinx, and Zycad. A number of these PowerPartners are also conducting negotiations to OEM elements of Viewlogic's OpenFrame.
 He continued, "Viewlogic on the other hand makes it as easy as possible for designers and integrators to work in our open, standards- based environment. In fact, they can create their own custom environment that truly meets their unique needs. Once integrated into OpenFrame, users are effectively coupled with the CFI standard, which will carry them into the future."
 PowerPartners extends Viewlogic's long-standing strategy of forming alliances and partnerships with third-parties to create design solutions based on integrated, Best-in-Class tools to meet particular design needs. PowerPartners will strengthen Viewlogic's other successful partnerships by providing a central technology and support foundation. Viewlogic's other partnerships include:
 -- Silicon Design Alliance (SDA) with leading FPGA vendors;
 -- PCB Design Alliance with printed circuit board manufacturers;
 -- IC PowerTeam with suppliers of IC design tools;
 -- Programmable PowerTeam with FPGA and CPLD vendors.
 Through Viewlogic's PowerPartners program, participants can use one of two new integration toolkits, ViewEDA and ViewCore, that offer all of the integration required to create smooth inter-operability with Viewlogic's OpenFrame. ViewCore and ViewEDA were both announced today in conjunction with the PowerPartners program.
 Founded in 1984, Viewlogic Systems, Inc. is a worldwide supplier of high-performance design automation solutions. Viewlogic's software for UNIX- and DOS/Windows-based computing platforms, combined with its broad range of support services, enables electrical engineers to design state- of-the-art electronic products more efficiently, reducing development cost and speeding time to market.
