VIDEOCART SET TO EXPAND ELECTRONIC COUPONING

VIDEOCART SET TO EXPAND ELECTRONIC COUPONING
CHICAGO, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- VideOcart Inc. (VCRT on NASDAQ), a

development stage company, today announced successful completion of live in-store testing of its new electronic couponing product and will now commence roll-out of the service. Electronic coupons are expected to be a major revenue source for the company.
This new service is a big hit with shoppers. In its original test store, VideOcart usage, measured by shopper trips with a VideOcart, increased approximately 40 percent after electronic coupon became available. Storewide sales for brands being couponed increased 55 percent, which the company believes is substantially above the level seen for paper coupons. The VideOcart electronic coupon user also bought four times more "aisle feature" products promoted on VideOcart than non-users, suggesting electronic couponing may also create a halo effect for other VideOcart services.
In-store testing has now been successfully completed for two of the most popular POS (point of sale) systems, IBM and ICL Datachecker. The company expects to have software for the NCR 2127 POS system and several other POS environments completed within the next few months. Due to the complexity of the technologies involved, testing had taken longer than anticipated.
The company expects this service to be in use in approximately two dozen stores by year-end and installed in most VideOcart stores during 1993. The company has already signed several initial client couponing contracts.
VideOcart is a micro-marketing media company, in its development stage, which installs and maintains a communication network consisting of programmable and targetable digital communications to video displays affixed to grocery shopping carts. This communications network, now installed in 214 supermarkets across the country, allows consumer product goods manufacturers to reach consumers at the exact aisle location of the brand being advertised or promoted with a flexible video message.
