VICE PRESIDENT FOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS NAMED

WASHINGTON, March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Jane Van Ryan has been named Vice President for Public Affairs of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). She will direct and manage SAIC's public affairs, and public relations planning and activities.

Prior to joining SAIC, Van Ryan managed the daily operations of the public relations department at the American Petroleum Institute (API). Van Ryan also served as communications director of Keep America Moving, a coalition formed by businesses, trade associations and consumers to support passage of the National Highway System Designation Act, transportation improvements and personal mobility.

At API, Van Ryan developed and implemented strategic plans, communications plans and advertising for several petroleum industry and coalition public affairs outreach efforts. She also established API's media training program and managed its audio and video production. A video produced by Van Ryan on the petroleum industry's Strategies for Today's Environmental Partnership in 1993 won top honors for excellence in video communications in an international competition.

Van Ryan has extensive experience in broadcast journalism. She was an anchor and a reporter at television stations in Peoria, Illinois, Louisville, Kentucky and Washington, D.C. where she produced award- winning reports for WUSA-TV, a CBS affiliate.

Among her broadcast awards are the National Press Club award for consumer reporting and several Emmy award nominations.

A native of Muncie, Indiana, Van Ryan will manage SAIC's public affairs activities from the corporation's Washington, D.C. government and public affairs office.
