VIBE, NEW HIP-HOP MAGAZINE, ON NEWSSTANDS SEPT. 14
NEW YORK, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The preview issue of Vibe, the

new magazine for the hip-hop generation, appears on newsstands nationwide today, Sept. 14. A joint venture of Quincy Jones Entertainment Company and Time Publishing Ventures, the magazine will include features, profiles and reviews covering contemporary culture from a hip-hop viewpoint.
As defined by its editorial staff, Vibe will cover "the music, the message, the mood and the moment of hip-hop culture, the most important music culture to emerge since rock n' roll." The magazine's coverage reflects the pervasiveness of hip-hop attitudes and influence throughout the contemporary scene. In addition to profiles of rappers Naughty by Nature and L.L. Cool J, the magazine's first issue includes articles on film director John Singleton, supermodel Naomi Campbell, an interview with comedienne Sandra Bernhard, and inside looks at the world of girl gangs and the dance hall music scene in Jamaica. In addition, the preview issue includes photo features by Albert Watson, a column by author/screenwriter Nelson George, reviews of new recordings and a hip- hop travel column.
Vibe's editor-in-chief is Jonathan Van Meter. Linda M. Rath is managing editor, Diane Cardwell is executive editor and Scott Poulson- Bryant is senior editor. Quincy Jones is founder of the magazine; Carol A. Smith is publisher.
200,000 copies of the magazine with a cover price of $2.50 will be available for sale at newsstands and in record stores, on Monday, September 14. The first test issue carries 54 pages of advertising, a substantial amount for a test issue of a new magazine.
Quincy Jones Entertainment Company, a multi-media production and communications company, is a joint venture between Quincy Jones and Time Warner Enterprises.
Time Publishing Ventures is a wholly owned subsidiary of Time Warner Inc., the world's leading media and entertainment company.
