VIATECH PROJECTS RECORD SALES AND CASH FLOW, REDUCED EARNINGS
SYOSSET, N.Y., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Viatech, Inc. (AMEX: VTK) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Donald J. Bainton, today projected record third quarter sales for the company. Sales in the third quarter are expected to exceed $150 million for the first time in the company's history, while sales for the year are expected to exceed $500 million. Mr. Bainton noted that the projections included the consolidation of the results of Plastic Containers, Inc. (PCI), as had been previously reported.
Mr. Bainton said that for the third quarter of 1992, the company expected gross cash flow (net income plus depreciation and amortization) to exceed $11 million. Cash flow would amount to approximately $38 million in 1992 or $8.00 per share on a fully diluted basis.
Bainton said estimates for earnings in the third quarter and full year are too optimistic. Third and fourth quarter results are expected to be negatively impacted by currency losses and increased interest expense resulting from fluctuations among European currencies; lower container sales in the U.S. as a result of customers' volume declines in the household product market and continued economic weakness; and, lower sales at the company's Ferembal subsidiary because of the recent flooding of crops in southern France.
Bainton said: "Notwithstanding the recent unexpected events which will depress 1992 results below our original expectations, we continue to be strongly optimistic regarding earnings and cash flow in 1993 and 1994. Analysts estimates for those periods should be in line with our internal projections."
The company also announced that it expected to begin trading as Continental Can Company, Inc. on the New York Stock Exchange on or about Oct. 21, 1992. The company's new ticker symbol will be "CAN."
Viatech, Inc., through its subsidiaries, manufactures extrusion blow-molded plastic containers, steel cans, plastic films and equipment for the packaging industry, and prints and laminates plastic film, foil and paper for the food and snack food industries. The company's subsidiary, Lockwood, Kessler & Bartlett, Inc. provides engineering services.
