 WYOMISSING, Pa., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Lawrence R. Pugh, chairman and chief executive officer of VF Corporation (NYSE: VFC), announced today the promotions of Mackey J. McDonald to president and chief operating officer, and Paul R. Charron to executive vice president. Both previously served as group vice presidents.
 Pugh, who remains chairman and CEO, held the position of president since October 1990; the executive vice president position is a new post.
 During the past several years, VF Corporation has experienced significant growth in the United States and Europe. Pugh will continue this strategy by concentrating on VF's expansion into new geographic markets, the acquisition of known, respected brands within its key apparel categories, and the overall growth and profitability of the corporation.
 McDonald, working with Pugh, will have primary responsibility for managing the daily operations of VF Corporation's divisions and continuing VF's commitment to be the most responsive apparel company to customers and consumers.
 Charron, reporting to McDonald, will run VF's sportswear, utility and domestic and overseas intimate apparel businesses. Major divisions reporting directly to him include Vanity Fair, Valero, Vivesa, Barbizon, Healthtex, Jantzen, JanSport, Marithe & Francois Girbaud, N.A., Red Kap and VF Factory Outlet.
 In making the announcement, Pugh said, "The growth of VF Corporation has mandated an expansion of the responsibilities of our management team, and these promotions reflect that. With Mackey and Paul's assistance, VF Corporation will continue its position as a world-class leader in the apparel category."
 McDonald, currently based in Greensboro, N.C., will be relocating to VF's corporate headquarters in Wyomissing.  VF currently markets its products in more than 150 countries. Its principal brands are Lee, Wrangler, Rustler, Marithe & Francois Girbaud, Riders, Bassett-Walker, Jantzen, JanSport, Vanity Fair, Vassarette, Barbizon, Variance, Siltex, Bolero, Silhouette, Gemma, Intima Cherry, Lou, Carina, Red Kap, WorkWear and Healthtex. Its 1992 sales were $3.8 billion, an increase of 30 percent over the previous year. In 1992, VF ranked 127th in Fortune's "500 Largest U.S. Industrial Corporations."

 Lawrence R. Pugh, 60, joined the corporation as president in February 1980. In December 1982, he was elected chief executive officer and in May 1983 was elected chairman of the board. In October 1990, he was also elected president of the corporation.
 Mackey J. McDonald, 47, joined the Lee Division of VF in February 1983 as assistant vice president-product and technical services. In April 1984, he was named vice president-business planning of Lee. From October 1984 until December 1986, he served as president of the former Troutman Division of VF. In December 1986, he was named executive vice president of Wrangler, serving in that capacity until October 1988 when he was named president. He was named a group vice president of VF in February 1991. He holds a B.A. from Davidson College and an M.B.A. in marketing from Georgia State University. He, his wife, Beth, and their four children currently reside in Greensboro, N.C., and will be relocating to Wyomissing in the near future.
 Paul R. Charron, 51, joined VF in June of 1988, assigned to the staff of the president. In October 1988, he was named a group vice president. Since March 1991, Charron has had responsibility for Vanity Fair, Barbizon, Vassarette, Intimate Apparel Private Label, Jantzen, Healthtex, Marithe & Francois Girbaud, N.A., Red Kap and VF Factory Outlet, as well as corporate planning. He holds a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and an M.B.A. from the Harvard University School of Business Administration. He, his wife, Cathy, and their two children reside in Wyomissing.
