ACQUISITION OFFERS CONSUMERS 'ENVIRONMENTALLY CORRECT' GARMENTS
WYOMISSING, Pa., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- VF Corporation (NYSE: VFC) today announced the acquisition of assets of Green Cotton Environment, Inc., a Los Angeles-based manufacturer and marketer of 100 percent certified organic cotton clothing. Assets acquired by VF will include exclusivity to all of the products, concepts and processes associated with the company.
Reflecting VF's philosophy of market responsiveness, the acquisition demonstrates VF's leadership role in offering retailers and consumers "environmentally correct" garments. Through the elimination of all chemicals from the cotton growing and apparel manufacturing processes, Green Cotton Environment produces garments that are 100 percent natural and thus, environmentally safe.
"Although Green Cotton Environment is presently smaller than our other VF divisions, the application of the Green Cotton Environment concept presents important, far-reaching opportunities for our companies," says Lawrence R. Pugh, chairman of the board, president and CEO of VF Corporation.
Through this acquisition, VF will also obtain the sportswear collection, marketed under the Green Cotton Environment label, which consists of t-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, shorts, pants, bodywear and accessories for men, women and children.
