VERSAR ANNOUNCES AWARD OF FOUR DELIVERY ORDERS UNDER THE ARMY TOTAL ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM SUPPORT CONTRACT

SPRINGFIELD, Va., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Versar, Inc. (AMEX: VSR), announced the award of four delivery orders under its Army Total Environmental Program Support (TEPS) contract with the U.S. Army Environmental Center (AEC) totaling $4,500,000. The cumulative period of performance is from March 29, 1993, to Sept. 30, 1994.
The delivery orders include: (1) the Environmental Compliance Assessment Management Program (ECAMP), an audit and assessment program at an initial six Government-owned, Contractor-operated industrial facilities; (2) an Expanded Site Investigation at an Army Base in Pedricktown, N.J.; (3) Air Emission Studies for 15 Army bases within the United States; and (4) a Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS) at Letterkenny Army Depot (LEAD) in Chambersburg, Pa. LEAD was established in 1942 with the primary mission of ammunition storage. The scope of this delivery order involves conducting remedial investigation field work, the production of a remedial investigation report, risk assessment report, that includes ecological studies and a feasibility study report for operable units three and four of the Property Disposal Office Area at LEAD. This area is one of two National Priority List (NPL) sites at LEAD.
The purpose of the air emission studies is related to the Clean Air Act (CAA) Amendments of 1990, which have drastically changed and made more stringent most of the air pollution related provisions contained in the CAA of 1977. The objectives of this delivery order are similar to those objectives that Versar is already performing for various government and industrial clients across the country. They are: (1) to perform a field survey of each installation in order to document all existing air pollution emission sources; (2) to determine air pollution emissions for each pollution source and provide the emission rates and levels for each source; and (3) to develop an inventory of all installation emissions, including all stack and fugitive emissions.
Ben Rawls, president and CEO of Versar, said: "Versar looks forward to completion of these new assignments under the TEPS program. They are part of an increasingly important thrust for the Army as it moves forward to clean up bases and Army-owned industrial facilities."
Versar, Inc., headquartered in Springfield, is a publicly-held, national environmental management company which provides a wide variety of scientific and technical services to help industry and government prevent pollution, manage environmental compliance and correct environmental and health and safety problems caused by pollution, hazardous materials and toxic substances.
