VERSAILLES BBC2, 9.30pm AS the opulent historical drama reaches episode three, the dark mood continues and it's still raining.
The Palace of Versailles doesn't seem to be a barrel of laughs at the moment.
The men are all striding around with their egos and puffy shirts, most in need of a good haircut. While the women fan themselves and wait to be told what to do.
Louis, meanwhile, seems to be having a bit of a personality crisis. "What kind of man do you think I am?" he asks his trusted adviser. "Am I merciful?" Staring at himself in the mirror, he clearly doesn't like what he sees. He could probably do with a duvet day.
Instead he tells his disgraced Queen that it's about time she stopped mourning, he needs her to 'entertain' a visiting rich African prince.
"Nice house," quips the prince, on arrival. But the poor chap is a bit confused when he's immediately hauled off and barricaded in a bedroom.
Elsewhere, a dissident duke tries to pressure Louis to return the royal court to Paris. But Louis would be smart to be suspicious.
