Commenting on April 1993 results, Julian Seeherman, chairman and chief executive officer said, "We are disappointed with our April sales which were weak due to the colder than normal weather in the first three weeks of the month. We were encouraged by business in the fourth week of the month when weather patterns began to normalize giving impetus to sales of seasonal categories in both home furnishings and softlines. We continue to be concerned about the overall economic climate and are planning conservatively for the remainder of the spring season."
