VDSF Sports and Adventure launches series of events.

VISIT Davao Summer Festival (VDSF) yesterday launched its roster of sports and adventure activities slated to kick-off this month until June, 2018 with areas to be played at Compostela Valley, Davao City, Sta. Cruz Davao del Sur, Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos), Davao del Norte, Mati City and the province of Davao Oriental.

VDSF chairman Benjamin Lizada along with the different Department of Tourism (DOT) regional officials and organizers graced its formal launching at the Seda Abreeza Hotel in an aim to highlight the region's finest tourism destinations for sports and adventure activities.

Joining Lizada in yesterday's launch also saw Generose Tecson, DOT Davao City chief; Atty. Romulus G. Tacontian, Municipal Administrator of Sta. Cruz Davao del Sur; Jennifer Cariaga, Tourism and Investments Officer of the Island Garden City of Samal; Noel Daquioag, Provincal Tourism Officer of the Province of Davao del Norte; Governor Tyrone Uy of Compostela Valley; Arlene Llamada, City Tourism Officer of Mati City; Miguel Trocio, Provincial Tourism Officer of the Province of Davao Oriental; Municipality of Governor Generoso Mayor Katrina Joy Orencia and Anton Edquila, Tourism Officer of the Municipality of San Isidro.

Heading the list of sport and adventure activities will be the Mt. Apo Boulder Face Challenge which will be held on April 21 and 22 at Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur in and aim to promote the Davao region as a prime eco-adventure destination in Southeast Asia. It is expected to feature some 30 extreme athletes participating in the Open Elite Category with a 90 percent finisher rate along with ten teams participating in the Relay divisions.

The Mount Apo Sky and Vertical Race will still be on April 21 and 22 starting at 12 midnight at Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur which will feature a 100 kilometer run on an out and back course. Aside from the 100 kilometer race, it will also have the 50 and 15 kilometer runs with some 100 entries seen to join each three respective divisions.

The VDSF 2nd Amihan National Skimboarding Competition reels off on April 26 to 29 at the Amihan Beach Resort in Mati City, Davao Oriental with some 120 entries expected. It covers the Master, Advance, Beginners, Women's and Legend divisions with cash prizes at stake for the winners.

Mati City's Menzi Beach in Dahican will feature the Bonamine Ultimate Beach Frisbee tournament which gets going on April 27-29. Participating teams will get P5,000 subsidies and special prizes await the tournament MVP, Mythical 7, Most Assist, Most Block, Best in Layout , Callahan and Finals MVP.

The much-anticipated Air Asia Durianman Triathlon gets going on April 29 at the Island Garden City of Samal organized by the Triathlon Association of Davao (TRIAD) headed by James Tan. The course will feature a 1.5 kilometer cross channel swim, a two-round 20 kilometer bike and the 10 kilometer run. The champion will receive P25,000 while the first and second runners-up will receive P15,000 and P10,000; respectively. Freebies such as singlet, t-shirt, bags, bikes and helmet stickers along with visors and swimming caps will be given to the participants upon registration.

The Island Garden City of Samal will also play host to the Flanax Samal Marathon which will be held on May 6 featuring the 5K, 10K and 21K race routes. Organized by the Sun Run Davao, the starting and finish line will be at Kinawitnon Rotunda Samal with routes from Rotunda to Pena Plata to Babak District to Secdea Resort and back.

Davao City's renowned Matina Town Square will be the venue for the Tempra Battle of the Strongest this May 26 as headed by Cross Fit Madayaw president Gerard Perkin Gotohio and Ms. Chin of PlayHard. The weightlifting competition will feature following sets of workout namely RX Men, RX Women, Master's Men, Master's Women, Scaled Men's and Scaled Women's.

The first VDSF Comval Aquathlon gets going on June 10 at the Kopiat Island where some 600 entries are expected to see action. The 500 meter run, 600 meter swim and 1.5 kilometer run competition is open to adult male and female participants on different age group categories. It will also feature the boys and girls division featuring a 600 meter swim and and a 500 meter run. Cash prizes are at stake for the winners.

The Visit Davao Summer Festival Climb Caravan will be set at different dates and venues. April 21 and 22 will be the first ComVal Bobaye Climb at Mt. Amakan, Compostella Valley while on May 23 to 25 will be the at Mt. Apo, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur which will be in partnership with Equator Asia. The Mars Attack! Compostela Valley National Climb at Mt. Candalaga, Maragusan will be on May 24 to 27 and the Mt. Hamiguitan, Davao Oriental climb on June 22 to 25.

Visit Davao Summer Festival Divefest reels off on separate dates set this May 20 at Sigaboy Island, Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental; May 26 at San Isidro, Davao Oriental and June 9 at Samal Island, Island Garden City of Samal.
