 VICE PRESIDENT, CONTROLLER
 BUFFALO, N.Y., June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Varity Corporation (NYSE: VAT) has appointed Kevin C. Shanahan to the post of vice president, controller and principal accounting officer at the company's world headquarters here. The appointment was announced by Neil D. Arnold, senior vice president and chief financial officer.
 Shanahan is responsible for accounting policy, internal financial controls, internal audit, information systems and reporting the financial results of the company and its international operating businesses to shareholders, government agencies and senior management.
 A certified public accountant, Shanahan joined Varity from Textron Inc., a diversified industrial and financial services company in Providence, R.I., where he was assistant controller. Earlier, he held financial management positions with United Technologies Corporation, of Hartford, CT, for 10 years.
 He earned an MBA in finance from the University of Hartford after completing undergraduate studies at Villanova University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Financial Executives Institute.
 Varity Corporation is a major industrial management company whose worldwide operations include Kelsey-Hayes automotive components, Massey Ferguson farm and industrial machinery, and Perkins diesel engines.
