VARIG CHOOSES WICAT FOR FLIGHT CREW TRAINING
OREM, Utah, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Wicat Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: WCAT) today announced that VARIG Airlines (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) has selected Wicat to provide computer-based training (CBT) systems valued at approximately $1,000,000.
Under terms of the recently signed agreement, these CBT systems -- which include computer workstations, training software, and support services -- will be used to deliver state-of-the-art flight crew training for a variety of aircraft in VARIG's fleet, including Boeing 747-400s and 737-300s, as well as McDonnell Douglas MD-11s and DC-10s.
VARIG officials involved in the purchase decision were impressed with Wicat's ability to deliver CBT for aircraft from different manufacturers on the same, industry-standard hardware platform. In addition, VARIG officials believe the systems will help them be more cost effective.
"Wicat CBT will provide substantial savings to VARIG in the form of reduced training costs," said Captain Nelson Riet, director of flight operations for VARIG. "Wicat's solution is compatible with our existing CBT delivery stations, and Wicat CBT will reduce travel requirements for pilots in training. These savings will be accomplished while delivering truly effective flight training."
VARIG officials conducted a comprehensive evaluation of available flight training courseware before making their purchase decision. "An extensive, six-month, on-site evaluation of Wicat's 747-400 and 737- 300 courseware resulted in the selection of Wicat as the most effective and suitable solution for VARIG's requirements," added Riet.
"Wicat's unique integration of three-dimensional part-task training devices in their CBT was overwhelmingly preferred by our pilot students," said Captain Claudio Scherer, flight training superintendent for VARIG. "Students said that Wicat's courseware was more realistic and provided far more effective training."
VARIG plans to implement Wicat CBT at its central training site in Rio de Janeiro as well as at its base in Sao Paolo, where pilots will use it for refresher training.
Wicat Systems Inc. is a world leader in technology-based training and provides products and services to significantly improve learning in industries, military, government, and schools. Wicat stock is traded in the NASDAQ market under the symbol WCAT.
