VAN'S STINGING THE BLUES.

Byline: By Steve GOODMAN

RUUD van Nistelrooy has dealt Manchester City a humiliating double snub.

Mega-rich City hoped to sign the former Manchester United striker from Real Madrid, with their Arab owners reportedly ready to offer a blank cheque for him.

But Van Nistelrooy, 32, insisted he prefers to stay with the Spanish champions - claiming he is interested in more than just money.

And the Holland international also questioned the wisdom of his ex-Real team-mate Robinho, who had appeared set to join Chelsea - only to move to Eastlands instead in a record pounds 32.5m deal. "I prefer to play for a 'Blanco' (white-shirted) team than to accept a blank cheque," Van Nistelrooy declared.

"Money is not the only thing that I am interested in. "I prefer to remain in Madrid.

Interesting things have been happening in English football recently. More and more clubs are being taken over by men who invest many millions of pounds. But nonetheless I want to stay with Real Madrid.

"I was surprised Robinho joined Manchester City. I respect his decision - everyone has their own reasons for doing things.

"But I had fully expected he would join Chelsea instead."
