VALUE MERCHANTS, INC. REPORTS 76.5 PERCENT INCREASE IN MAY SALES
 MILWAUKEE, June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Sales of Value Merchants, Inc. (NYSE: VMI), for the four weeks ended May 30, 1992, for its retail and wholesale operations increased 76.5 percent to $18.5 million from $10.5 million a year ago. Year-to-date revenues through the first 17 weeks of the fiscal year were 66 percent ahead of a year ago, totalling $71.6 million compared with $43 million a year ago.
 Value Merchants, Inc., a value retailer of close-out merchandise, operated 275 Everything's $1.00 variety retail stores at the close of the four week period compared with 124 a year ago and 116 Toy Liquidators toy stores compared with 99 a year ago.
 Comparable store sales for Everything's $1.00 (104 stores) decreased 6.2 percent for the four-week period from a year ago while total sales for Everything's $1.00 were 122.2 percent ahead of a year ago. The decrease in comparable store sales primarily reflects a softness in retail mall traffic.
 Toy Liquidators reported a 17.1 percent increase in comparable store sales for the period (91 stores) with total sales increasing 31.4 percent from a year ago. Toy Liquidator's achieved its comparable store sales increase largely as a result of a national sales promotional program.
