BERWICK-based Valerie Fairnington and her former race horse Silver Bullet (pictured above) won the College Valley Hunter Trial Open novice section with a clear round and best time score.

Valerie said: "I have owned Silver Bullet since he came out of racing seven years ago and he is now 13-years-old.

"He was trained by Bruce Mctaggart in Hawick and raced on the flat and over hurdles. "I spent the first two years reschooling and getting to know him at other local events.

"I took up eventing three years ago with him, starting at Intro before moving up to BE100 and BE100 open classes.

"He has had his best season this year, although he could still do with improving in the dressage as it is not his favourite phase. He excels at the cross-country phase, at which he has had no faults in this year.

"We are members of Scotnorth, which is a club for ex-race horses. The day after Hopetoun Horse Trials they held a Fesitval of the ex-race horse where Lucinda Russell and Peter Scudamore were the judges and Silver Bullet won the in-hand class and best event type. At the Edinburgh and District Riding Club show last month they held a Scotnorth in hand and ridden ex-race horse classes. "Silver Bullet was third and second and also reserve champion. He also won the novice working class section."
