V2500 ENGINE TO POWER AIRBUS A319
V2500 ENGINE TO POWER AIRBUS A319 GLASTONBURY, Conn., Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- In another significant
milestone in the relationship between Airbus Industrie and International Aero Engines, the two companies have signed an agreement to install the V2500 turbofan on the proposed 130-seat Airbus A319 aircraft.
Further demonstrating the versatility of the V2500 family of high technology engines, the same V2500-A5 is now available on the A319, A320 and A321 family of Airbus Industrie narrow body aircraft. The engine for the A319 will have a rated take-off thrust from 22,000 lb. This model of V2500 will be identical to the powerplants currently on offer for the A320 and A321, with only thrust changes to reflect the differing weights and operational needs of these aircraft. Complementing the already high level of commonality between the three Airbus airframes, cockpit and avionics, this ultimate level in engine commonality offers significant financial and operational benefits to operators of the V2500 engine on the Airbus aircraft. The baseline V2500-A1, in service on the A320 with seven customers on four continents has already accumulated over 150,000 hours of trouble-free operation. This is equivalent to 75 million miles in which the engine has proven itself to be the most fuel efficient, reliable, quietest and cleanest engine in its class. The -A5, a close derivative of the -A1, made its first test run six months ago with testing progressing to schedule for engine certification in November 1992. This engine model is available at thrusts between 22,000-30,000 lb. take-off thrust, with scope for further thrust growth. The V2500-D5, which features turbomachinery identical to that of the -A5, is also available on the McDonnell Douglas MD-90 family of aircraft. -0- 11/14/91 /CONTACT: Robert Nuttall of International Aero Engines, 203-652-1812/ CO: International Aero Engines ST: Connecticut IN: ARO SU: KM-DD -- NE010 -- 4563 11/14/91 16:19 EST
