Urine a spot of bother with that jellyfish sting, Damien; EXCLUSIVE.
Byline: By STEPHEN MAGUIREROCKER Damien Dempsey has revealed how he was attacked by a shoal of jellyfish - but was left "peed off" when his friends tried to help. The chart-topping Dubliner, 28, who counts Christy Moore and Bono amongst his fans, is a keen swimmer. And he revealed how he was set upon by the creatures - believed to be Compass jellyfish - off the coast at Howth.
"I just love going swimming when I get the chance, but recently I was set upon by a load of jellyfish who even stung me in the face," he said.
"My friends told me the only cure was for them to pee on the stings so you can imagine I passed on that offer. I just suffered with the pain which was awful for a while."
Dempsey, who started a countrywide tour this week, also revealed he was mistaken for a female seal.
"The place is also full of seals and one day a male seal got too close for comfort and I found a couple of flippers touching my back when I was swimming," he said.
"He obviously thought I was a female seal and was getting a little bit frisky."
Dempsey, once romantically linked to Sinead O'Connor, says he hates putting on weight when he goes on tour.
"I've lost a few pounds in recent months but I'm dreading going on tour because I always put it back on," he said.
"Between the after-show drinks and all the garage food, I'll be huge.
I've about 40 shows between now and Christmas so I should be nice and cuddly."
