Upto 19-hour long power cuts being observed in Chitral.
CHITRAL, September 05, 2009 (Balochistan Times): Despite a clear
directive to the power distribution companies (DISCOS) for not observing
power cuts during Sehr and Iftar times, Peshawar Electricity Supply
Company (PESCO) is observing upto 19 hours long load shedding a day.
They cut power supply from 7:00 p.m. in the evening till 2:00 p.m. in he
noon next day, which causes severe problems for the inhabitants during
Sehr and Iftar times, local elders told an survey on Saturday. Upper
Balach, Civil Aviation, Met colony and adjacent areas are deprived from
7:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and thus giving continued load shedding of 19
hours a day. When consumers tried to contact PESCO complaint office
there was no official to attend telephone of consumers. Some people also
complained that the load shedding in the Chitral city is also
discriminatory as areas of influential people are being exempted from
the load shedding. They are violating the directives of the Federal
Minister for Water and Power, who has ordered WAPDA not to observe load
shedding during Sehr and Iftar3times, A resident of Upper Baloch said.
Residents of the area appealed Raja Pervez Ashraf and PESCO high-ups to
take action on the situation and help reduce miseries of the
