TELECOMWORLDWIRE-20 August 2009-Upgrade to Hertfordshire's HGfL education network completed by ntl:Telewest Business(C)1994-2009 M2 COMMUNICATIONS

ntl:Telewest Business, part of the Virgin Media Group, said today that 572 educational sites in the English county of Hertfordshire have had their Internet connection upgraded as part of a project to upgrade the Hertfordshire Grid for Learning (HGfL).

The HLfG was established and supported by the UK Government's National Grid for Learning strategy and is a private network joining all Hertfordshire's maintained schools, education support centres, residential children's homes and youth programme units, providing a safe and secure internet and e-mail environment to support teaching, learning and school management.

The network upgrade now provides all primary and middle schools with 2Mb/s of bandwidth and secondary schools with 10Mb/s bandwidth, backed by 'comprehensive' web filtering technology to ensure users have an appropriate, productive and safe online experience.

The cost of the upgrade has not been disclosed.
