Unsung heroes sought for prestigious medal award.
Coun Pauline Charlton, chairwoman of Durham County Council, is working with the 14 area action partnerships (AAP) to identify applicants. Fourteen medals will be presented and applicants can be of any age. They will be presented to people for their voluntary efforts or to organisations which have made an outstanding charitable contribution.
Each of the AAPs will select three nominees and then Coun Charlton will select one from each group to receive the award.
Coun Charlton said: "I want this presentation event to be a celebration of the achievements and effort that people of our county put in every day - a little time to reflect on the excellent work that people do for each other."
Nominations can be sent to the chairman's office, Durham County Council, County Hall, Durham, DH1 5UL. They can also be sent to the AAPs. Forms can also be obtained at durham. gov.uk/aap or via email from firstname.lastname@example.org. The closing date for nominations is February 14, and the awards ceremony is in April.
