Unsigned award nomination a De-light for Soham.

DURHAM University student Soham De has beaten thousands of other acts to be named in the UK's top 10 Unsigned Male Acts.

The talented singer-songwriter, from Kings Lynn, has been nominated in the Best Unsigned Male category at the 2016 Unsigned Music Awards (UMAs). Launched in 2012, the awards have seen more than 35,000 music fans cast their vote, including celebrities such as rock star Frank Turner and international footballer Gareth Bale.

Ninteen-year-old Soham has spent the last year juggling studying Biological Sciences at Durham University alongside writing, recording and touring. He independently released his debut album, Ghost, in September 2015 and has recently supported the likes of Gabrielle Aplin, Saint Raymond, Bondax, Meadowlark, Isaac Gracie and Kal Lavelle.

Soham said: 'I'm honoured to be nominated, it really means a lot to have my music played on Best of British - Unsigned and I hope people enjoy the new music coming."

Headlining Ernest at Evolution Emerging - the North East's biggest event for unsigned music, gaining a slot at Boardmasters Festival 2016 as well as playing at venues across the UK, Soham is quickly making ground on the live circuit.

This year's Unsigned Music Awards are sponsored by Vocalzone who produce the only medically licenced throat pastille for relieving irritation or soreness caused by over-use of the voice.

George Ponsford, sales & marketing director said: "Unsigned music in the UK is stronger than ever before, and these awards are not only great for recognising some of this country's most Soham De has been nominated for top award promising artists, but also giving them the platform to share their music with the masses online.".

Other award categories include Best Female, Best Male and Best Song, the latter previously won by Molly Smitten-Downes, who went on to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Content.

Nominees are also put forward for 'The Critic's Choice Award', and Soham hopes his sound impresses a panel of three industry experts.

This year's judges are: Frank Turner (folk rock star), Huey Morgan (BBC 6 Music radio presenter & Fun Lovin' Criminals frontman) and staff at The Unsigned Guide (an online music contacts directory).

Frank Turner said: "I feel very strongly about doing what I can to support new talent coming through; partly because other people helped me out when I was starting my career, and partly because it's always great to hear new music, there's so much out there."

Huey Morgan added: "If those of us who have jumped into the deep end don't report back to the next generation what we have experienced, we would be remiss in our endeavour."

The awards are hosted by Best of British Unsigned (BoB Unsigned) and be determined by an online public vote. BoB Unsigned is the UK's number one website for 'Unsigned Music.'.

Matt Graveling, BoB founder, said: "The UK produces the best musicians in the world and we get to play them before anyone else! The UMAs are the much needed recognition that these musicians need in order to realise just how good they are."
