University of Tokyo's Human Genome Center opts for Sun servers.

Hardware, software and services provider Sun Microsystems Inc has supplied its Sun Fire servers to the Human Genome Center, a branch of the Institute of Medical Science of The University of Tokyo.

The Center will use eight Sun Fire 15K servers to power its human genome analysis system together with two Sun Fire 6800 servers. This gives a total of 788 UltraSPARC III processors and approximately 1.7TB memory.

Sun has stated that the genome analysis system is the second largest cluster of Sun Fire 15K servers in the world.

The cost of the implementation was not revealed.
