University of Minnesota Alumni Association Celebrates 100 Years and Introduces New University of Minnesota Musical Cheer; University's Pep Band Will Perform New Piece at a Lunch Event.

MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ --
 WHAT: In honor of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association's (UMAA)
 100th anniversary, a university musical cheer, chosen from a
 nationwide musical cheer contest open to all alumni, will be
 performed at a public celebration on Jan. 30 at the McNamara Alumni
 Center on the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities campus. At
 12:15 p.m., the UMAA will unveil its centennial gift to the
 University -- a new musical cheer -- performed by the pep band.
 Following the new cheer, University of Minnesota President Robert
 Bruininks will speak.

 All students, alumni, faculty, and community members are invited by
 the UMAA to enjoy free lunch and birthday cake as well as birthday
 games with prizes. An invitation-only evening celebration at the
 McNamara Alumni Center will honor all alumni association
 achievements and will incorporate Gopher music, including the new
 university musical cheer.

 For a century, the UMAA has advocated for educational excellence
 and built university pride, spirit and community.

 -- Performance of the new University of Minnesota musical cheer by the
 university's pep band.
 -- Interviews with Bradley Stokes, winning cheer composer.
 -- Interviews with Stan Freese, a musical cheer contest judge and alumnus.
 Freese is the talent casting and booking director for Disney
 Entertainment Productions in Anaheim, Calif. He can discuss entrants
 and the impact the cheer will have on the university.
 -- Remarks by University of Minnesota President Robert Bruininks.
 -- Community members, students, faculty, and Goldy Gopher celebrating at
 the lunch event.
 -- Interviews with University of Minnesota Alumni Association leaders on
 the rich 100-year history of the association and its impact on the
 -- Gopher music across the century performance at private evening program.
 Interior of McNamara Alumni Center will display a 50-foot maroon and
 gold bow.

 -- 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Birthday Party of the Century lunch and cheer
 introduction (12:15 p.m.)
