Universal adds to Paula Deen.
The collection was unveiled at last month's High Point Market.
"We drew inspiration from historic Savannah homes and charming restaurants, cottages and inns--as well as Paula's own antiques," said Jeff Scheffer, president and CEO of Universal Furniture. "Dogwood gets its name from the place where many of us first came to know Paula--her kitchen studio in her home on Dogwood Avenue. As authentic and welcoming as the flowering tree, Dogwood reflects Paula's generosity and spirited personality."
Dogwood features casual, traditional, welcoming silhouettes. Several finishes highlight birch veneers, select hardwood solids and accents of fancy face oak veneers. Low Tide, a mid-tone brown stain with subtle distressing available on every piece, replicates antiques with water spots and burnishing.
Other finishes, available in several combinations on select pieces, include Cobblestone, a soft gray paint inspired by French pieces found in Savannah's famed antiques district; Blossom, a chalk white with timeworn rub-through named for the dogwood bloom; and Driftwood, a gray stain, used on tabletops only, which has the casual feel of Low Country Spanish moss.
Exaggerated turned saucer motifs are a whimsical nod to the turned poster beds that graced the homes of wealthy Savannah merchants in the 19th century, while spool and bobbin turnings pay homage to local cotton production. Garden gate and porch baluster details, upholstered linen, and oiled bronze metal reflect a casual, coastal lifestyle.
"Dogwood is both delightfully eclectic and genuinely cohesive," Scheffer said. "With its casual attitude and flavorful details, Dogwood welcomes you home with Southern hospitality and Savannah style."
The round Breakfast Table features a fancy face oak top with an octagonal pedestal base and stylized pear feet and is available in Low Tide and Blossom with a Driftwood top. Six bobbin legs create triangular pedestals at either end of the rectangular Dogwood Dinner Table, available both in Low Tide or Blossom with a Driftwood top.
A stainless steel top with an overhang for seating adds form and function to the Kitchen Island, which includes both open and closed storage and two towel rods. The Kitchen Stool is a jewel with bobbin legs, a fully upholstered linen seat and a curvy apron with gimp welt and nail head trim. The Credenza is a standalone three-door credenza in Low Tide or Blossom with a Driftwood top and features a wood-framed top with stone inserts, and a wood and oiled bronze Wine-on-the-Wall Rack with space for stemware, as well as wine bottles stored sideways.
The Dogwood Bed, with four tall posts inspired by Paula's own bed, is available in the Low Tide or Blossom finish in all wood or in the Cobblestone finish with an upholstered linen headboard. Other beds include the Upholstered Metal Bed, in oiled bronze with linen panels and metal quatrefoil motifs on the headboard and footboard, and The Tybee Island Bed, which has a shelter headboard with beaded slats and bun feet in either Low Tide or Blossom.
Other pieces include The Debonaire Etagere, with cup-and-saucer turned posts and wood framed glass shelves, in Low Tide or in Cobblestone with a Blossom back. The rectangular Cocktail Table and End Table combine a fancy face veneer top with turned trumpet legs and a lower shelf, finished in Low Tide or with a Blossom base and Driftwood top. The versatile Iced Tea Cart in oiled bronze metal with wood shelves, a wood handle and casters is available in Low Tide or Cobblestone. The scalloped Pie Crust Table, in Low Tide or Cobblestone, has a turned pedestal base and three legs.
