Units established to target dissident bureaucrats across Turkey.
ySTANBUL (CyHAN)- Ongoing reorganization within the National Police Department's Intelligence Bureau Secretariat (yDB) in various provinces of Turkey has led to thinking that government-orchestrated profiling operations to remove and reshuffle dissident bureaucrats from state bodies has extended beyond major cities.
According to sources, new units called "R10" have been established within different yDB intelligence bureaus, consisting of 10 people per unit. These units, so far located in five provinces, have been assigned to monitor bureaucrats considered to be opposing the Justice and Development Party (AK Party).
Recordings and reports about the select bureaucrats will be sent to a special unit within the National Police Department called the Cosmic Study Group (KEcG), allegedly led by Interior Minister Efkan Ala, and from there they will be sent to the institutions in which the bureaucrats serve. The operation resembles illegal activities carried out by the West Study Group (BEcG) in the Feb. 28, 1997 coup, the fourth military intervention in politics in Turkey's history. The BEcG, which operated at the time of the Feb. 28 postmodern coup, is considered the inspiration behind the KEcG, which was established as part of a government-led operation to stamp out a "parallel structure" within the state.
