Unitrin subsidiary to contest award.

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 10, 1995--Unitrin, Inc. (NASDAQ: NMS Symbol UNIT) announced today that the District Court of Hidalgo County, Texas has entered a judgment in the amount of $77 million against Unitrin's subsidiary, Trinity Universal Insurance Company of Dallas, Texas. The case involved Trinity Universal's alleged improper handling of a claim made under a $40,000 automobile liability insurance policy.

Trinity Universal has strongly denied any wrongdoing and Unitrin and Trinity Universal consider the judgment to be eminently unjust. Trinity Universal intends to pursue vigorously all available avenues for relief from the judgment.
