Project Description: The Reliability Interregional Transmission Extension (RITE) Line consists of approximately 420-miles of 765 kV transmission line linking AEP s proposed Blue Creek with Pioneer Transmission LLC s stations (Greentown and a new station near Reynolds) in Ohio and Indiana with Exelon s Pontiac, Kewanee, Collins, Nelson, and Byron stations south and west of Chicago in Illinois. The Project will include five new 765 kV substations and other applicable transmission facilities.
Project Cost: The total project cost is estimated to be approximately $1.6 billion. American Electric Power s investment in the project will be $325 million, with MidAmerican Energy Company, Exelon Corporation and Commonwealth Edison investing $175 million, $200 million, and $900 million, respectively.
Project Status: The FERC issued an order on October 21, 2011 granting incentives for the project and accepting a formula rate. The project is currently under evaluation by PJM.
Project Construction Timeframe: The anticipated in service date is expected to be completed in stages from 2015 - 2018.
States Served/Number of Circuit Miles in each State: Indiana (105-miles), Illinois (315-miles)
Project Investment Partners: American Electric Power, MidAmerican Energy Company, Exelon Transmission Co., and Commonwealth Edison.
Project Benefits: The project is designed to augment system reliability, enable states to meet their respective renewable portfolio standard requirements, relieve congestion, and enhance system operations.
