United States Cold Storage to break ground on 7.2 million cubic foot expansion in Tulare, CA: new facility will make USCS largest modern multi-temperature storage provider in California's dynamic Central Valley.
Site work is presently underway and groundbreaking is scheduled for mid to late January with an anticipated start-up of operations in early August 2008.
USCS operates two warehousing and distribution centers in Tulare, California: Tulare-North and Tulare-South, within a quarter mile of each other. The expansion of Tulare-North will bring the combined capacity to about 21 million cubic feet with 80,000 fully racked pallet positions, making it the biggest operation under one management team in the company's nationwide network.
Growing to Meet Customer Demand
In Tulare, USCS offers a broad range of services to local, national and international customers by providing dry, refrigerated and frozen food storage, blast or quick freezing, and extensive transportation capabilities. The Phase Three expansion at the Tulare-North facility will add 2.7 million cubic feet of dry storage space, including nearly 11,000 new storage rack positions, and 4.5 million cubic feet of multi-temperature refrigerated space featuring an additional 17,000 pallet positions.
As with all USCS projects, the build-out will incorporate the most modern facility design and refrigeration technology including convertible temperature rooms from +55[degrees]F to -20[degrees]F, fully enclosed and refrigerated loading dock areas served by 30 truck receiving doors and seven rail loading doors, new customer service shipping and receiving offices, and employee wellness facilities and management offices.
Projected cost for the expansion is just under $29 million dollars. USCS Tulare Management anticipates it will add 40 full time warehouse jobs and at least two customer service positions to properly service the additional space and customer product volume.
With this current expansion, Tulare-North, on East Walnut Avenue, will have combined (dry, refrigerated and frozen) storage space capacity of almost 13 million cubic feet, and a total of nearly 50,000 fully-racked pallet positions. The Tulare-South facility, on East Continental Avenue, has been expanded three times and offers nearly eight million cubic feet with 30,000 pallet positions of multi-temperature space. In total USCS has more than 70 acres of land in the Tulare complex dedicated to its current and future warehousing and transportation service business.
