United States : Washington Post Quotes Anthony Pierce on Marcus Garvey Pardon Petition.

Akin Gump Washington, D.C. partner in charge Anthony Pierce was quoted by The Washington Post for its article Marcus Garveys son wants President Obama to pardon his famous father. Time is running out.

The article discusses a posthumous pardon petition that an Akin Gump team led by Pierce has filed with the Department of Justice on behalf of Dr. Julius Garvey and his family. The petition requests President Obama pardon his late father, African American civil rights activist and pioneer Marcus Garvey, of a criminal conviction widely seen as having been racially and politically motivated.

Pierce said, We believe Marcus Garvey was the subject of racial and political animus. Garvey was targeted by J. Edgar Hoover. He did it in the same way he targeted Martin Luther King several decades later. The main goal was to get evidence to deport Garvey, because he was a rabble-rouser and a political threat.
