United States : Vane Brothers expands fleet with new vessel construction.

The Vane Brothers Company is continuing the expansion of its fleet with new ship construction.

This month, the marine transport firm received the first of three new ATB tugs from the Conrad Orange Shipyard in Orange, Texas.

One of the boats is the Assateague, while the remaining boats will be the Chincoteague and Wachapreague.

Each 110-foot by 38-foot tug, designed by Greg Castleman of Castleman Maritime, LLC, sited in League City, Texas, is being mated to an 80,000-barrel barges designed by Bristol Harbor Group and being built by Conrad Industries of Amelia, La. These barges measure 405 feet by 74 feet.

Each ATB unit uses a Beacon-Finland JAK 700 tug/barge coupling system. Crew access to the barges is eased by a Schoelhorn-Albrecht custom gangway. Coastal Marine Equipment of Gulfport MS is providing deck capstans on the tugs.

The tugs would be able to accommodate up to 10 crew members. The Cummins-powered vessels will be classed ABS-A1 TUG, AMS, ABCU.
