United States : US Army partners with National Security Agency to boost cryptographic modernization.
US Armys partnership with National Security Agency has resulted in advancement in cryptographic modernization, information security and strategic network protection.
The US Army Materiel Commands Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC) and NSA are jointly defining a collaborative approach to fast-tracking cryptographic product fielding, in which the Cyber Security and Information Assurance (CSIA) division will support many of the certification functions usually performed by NSA to make sure that products like software-defined tactical radios meet strict NSA security requirements and quality standards.
Space and Terrestrial Communications Directorate (S&TCD) inked a memorandum of agreement in August this year to become an NSA Evaluation Service Laboratory supporting the assessment of government off-the-shelf systems seeking NSA certification. S&TCD will serve as a supplement to Type 1 certification, a process including testing and formal study of the security of a product, which will vastly accelerate the time needed to achieve a certification decision.
The agreement will see CERDEC working directly with the original equipment manufacturer to provide security guidance and assessment of the OEMs GOTS deliverables before NSA technical approval and certification.
