United States : Trump signs executive order to expand offshore oil and gas drilling.

President Trump has inked an executive decree aimed at expanding offshore drilling for oil and gas.

The oil and gas industry have welcomed the move which has been greeted with alarm by environmental groups.

Before he signed the order, Trump said, 'Renewed offshore energy production will reduce the cost of energy, create countless new jobs, and make America more secure and far more energy independent,. He said previous restrictions on exploration and production deprive the U.S. of potentially thousands and thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in wealth.'

Under the order, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke has been asked to review a 5-year proposal in which President Obama banned drilling in parts of the Pacific, Arctic, and Atlantic Oceans.

One of the parts of the decree that could affect California is a provision under which the Secretary of Commerce is required to review any new or expanded national marine sanctuaries over the last 10 years.
