United States : September is Life Insurance Awareness Month.

American Family Life Lessons scholarship winner, learned firsthand what it means to experience a life-changing event without the protection of life insurance. Her mother, who was helping finance her college education, suffered a heart attack and died one month after Kimmy returned to college last year at the University of Georgia.

Because her mother did not have life insurance, Kimmys ability to continue her studies was in jeopardy.

Now, Kimmy is able to move forward in pursuit of her dreams, thanks to her selection as the 2017 recipient of the American Family Life Lessons scholarship. American Family Life Insurance Company (AFLIC) donated $10,000 last year to the Life Lessons Scholarship Program. The program, sponsored by industry organization Life Happens, helps young people seeking a college education and struggling financially because their parent or guardian died with little or no life insurance.

This year, American Family is kicking off Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM) by again donating up to $10,000 to the scholarship program.

A short true/false life insurance quiz on is designed to dispel myths about life insurance and educate consumers about the importance of life insurance.

For each quiz completed in September, AFLIC will donate $1 (up to $10,000) to the scholarship program.

Life insurance protects loved ones dreams and their financial futures, said Todd Fancher, Life Company president. As a sponsor of LIAM, were committed to educating our customers on the protective power of life insurance. Were also proud to help support students dreams of attending college.

Life Insurance Awareness Month is the ideal time to evaluate whether financial protection is in place should tragedy strike. A recent Life Insurance Marketing Research Association (LIMRA) study found:

40 percent of households havent bought life insurance or more of it because theyre unsure of how much or what type to buy.

One-third of households would have immediate trouble paying living expenses if the primary wage earner died.

American Familys Life Needs Calculator can you help assess needs and an American Family agent can provide assistance in evaluating and obtaining coverage.
