United States : SIX-year contract extension received by Versyp.

FIFTH contract extension since 2006 is received by Head women s basketball coach Sharon Versyp.

Versyp s activities in her eight seasons with the University comprises four Big Ten tournament championships, along with appearances in the Elite Eight in 2007 and 2009. Under her, 25 players have obtained All-Big Ten accolades at Purdue, counting four first-team selections, and three Boilermakers have been recognized with All-America honors. Three players have been selected in the WNBA draft: Katie Gearlds in 2007 (No. 7 by the Seattle Storm), Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton in 2009 (No. 13 by the Los Angeles Sparks) and Danielle Campbell in 2009 (No. 32 by the Indiana Fever).

Tom Schott, an associate athletics director of Purdue Athletics, appreciated Versyp on her career with the Boilermakers, mentioning the hard work she s put in.

Schott said, Well certainly if you look at her bio and her resume it speaks for itself . Beyond (the championships), certainly she s had student athletes graduate that are great representatives of Purdue and she s really everything that you d want a Purdue athletics head coach to be.

Schott said the biggest impact of the extension will be stability for the women s program.

He said, She s laid a great foundation and we expect even better things in the future .

Versyp said, First and foremost, I appreciate the ongoing commitment and support from our administration President Daniels, Morgan Burke and Nancy Cross and the entire Purdue family . It is an honor to serve as the head women s basketball coach at my alma mater, and I am extremely thankful and blessed.

My staff and I will continue working to bring talented student-athletes from Indiana and around the country to preserve and elevate our status as an elite program. We want to attract the very best young women to help us win championships while they earn a world-class education and develop into tomorrow s leaders.
