United States : NHS announces what it has done with over $26M in planning funds for new hospital.

The sign has been up for 18 months, and it's been nearly a year since the province anted up millions for a planning grant for a new hospital to cater to Niagara's southern tier.

However, a lot has gone behind the scenes, and the Niagara Health System (NHS) announced on Thursday, what it has done with over $26 million in planning funds for the new hospital that would be sited on land at the corner of Montrose and Lyons Creek roads in Niagara Falls.

NHS board chair Barry Wright said : "Today's announcement marks an exciting milestone in sharing a rejuvenated vision for Niagara Health System and regional care."

Wright said a steering committee comprised of staff from the NHS, the Hamilton Niagara Brant Local Heath Integration Network (LHIN) and health service partners has been formed to guide all future planning processes.

He added : "These collaborative efforts mark the beginning steps NHS has taken to ensure that the Niagara Region will have the best health care delivery system possible for its communities. Our board is committed and we are pleased to report NHS planning progress as being right on track."
