United States : Medina CDC wins Vernon Rd. revitalization project manager contract.

Medina Community Development Corporation (CDC), the CDC arm of Masjidullah Inc., has secured a project manager contract from the city.

The deal will see the Medina CDC supervising the revitalization project on Vernon Rd., a business corridor in Mt. Airy.

Organizers of Medina were joined by elected officials including Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney and City Councilwoman Cherelle Parker (D-9) on Nov. 3 at a press conference to announce the project, which will include facade upgrades and more lighting for businesses along Vernon Rd.

Michael Rashid, Medina CDC board member, said, "We are elated. Medina CDC is a new CDC but we are by no means new to this area. We are a part of Masjidullah. Our members are a part of this community. The fact that they had faith in us is gratifying. For those of us who have small businesses, we know how important it is for people to say 'I have faith in you.' We guarantee you we are going to work our fingers to the bone and make sure this is a successful project."

Describing the specific responsibilities of the role, Salim Wilson, Medina CDC Project Manager, said, "I will be the boots on the ground and the liason between the contractors and the Medina board. My job is to make sure contractors stay on time and to make sure everything is done according to the architectural renderings. Ill be out here every day to make sure if there are any flaws, it is rectified."
