United States : Major improvements proposed for students using LCPS' transportation system.

New bus stops, a smooth bus registration process and enhanced safety measures are among the major improvements almost 9,300 students using the Las Cruces Public Schools' transportation system would see during the upcoming school year.

David Del Toro, LCPS director of transportation, said, "The changes weve made are going to improve the process for everyone. We're using technology, coupled with 'real world' knowledge of the city, to improve the bus riding experience across the district."

He said that by utilizing Versatrans, a transportation management software program, the transportation department will now utilize data from each bus rider's location to choose bus stop locations which will optimize the efficiency of each bus route. Each chosen location is then assessed by the transportation department to ensure the stop is in a proper location, based on factors like safety.

He added, "In years past, we had to make rough estimates about how many buses we'd need. By using data in the system, were now able to develop more accurate estimates."
