United States : MDIBL secures grant to strengthen biomedical research and hands-on workforce training in MAINE.

The MDI Biological Laboratory (MDIBL) in Bar Harbor has announced that it has secured an $18.4 million grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the National Institutes of Health, soon after hearing it may profit from a $3 million bond proposal passed by Gov. Paul LePage in late April and to be voted on November 2014.

MDIBL said it will use the five year grant to bolster biomedical research and hands-on workforce training in Maine.

It added that the grant assures that the Maine IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence, called INBRE, will continue.

INBRE is a cooperative network comprising 13 Maine research institutions, universities and colleges led by the MDIBL.
