United States : HISTORIC Belmore House sold for above $1 Million.
At present a HISTORIC Wagga house has a price tag to equivalent after being sold for above $1 million.
Contracts were exchanged earlier week for the sale of Belmore House at 44 Kincaid Street, constructed in 1868 for the founder of The Daily Advertiser, AG Jones.
The stately 2-storey brick house was located on the market for $1.75 million previous year.
Selling agent Paul Gooden, of Fitzpatrick's Real Estate, said the new owners had asked him not to reveal their identity or the sale price.
However is believed the price may be the highest paid yet for a Wagga house.
Mr Gooden said, "I can say it was on the market for $1.75 million and the sale was negotiated . "It sets the bar for Wagga. "I can't say more than that."
"They are from out of town; they will do a press release in a month or so," Mr Gooden said.
John and Jenny Cummins has sold Belmore house.
They bought the property in a seriously run down condition at the end of 1999 and set about restoring it to its former grandeur inside and out.
Features comprises an upstairs grand ballroom, pressed metal ceilings, timber flooring, open fireplaces, two offices separate from the house and a 1429 square metre block.
Mr Cummins said, "We enjoy renovating homes and needed a challenge, and for us it was certainly a challenge .
"The house has great street appeal and we were both just attracted to the place.
"We could see with good restoration it could once again emulate what it had been earlier."
Mrs Cummins said: "The 'bones' were good, it was solid, it was just neglected."
"I loved the two storeys, the roof line, everything; you could see it could be a beautiful home.
"It's so nice to see something that was so neglected finish up alive.
"That is what I get out of renovations, to bring it to life."
The couple is at present renovating another central Wagga property.
Mr Cummins said, "We felt we met the challenge here (Belmore House) .
"It is a large home and there are just the two of us and we didn't want to spend the rest of our lives potting around a place that is much bigger than our needs."
