United States : GCEDC sanctions Rail Development Deal.
The fiscal arm of the Genesee County Economic Development Center sanctioned a deal for a improvement of railroad lines at the Genesee Valley Agri-Business Park.
The board of Genesee Local Development Corporation allotted the $1,12,323 with Genesee Valley Transportation Company.
Around $900,000 in funding will come from a $3.9 million state grant the GGLDC got in 2009.
Mark Masse, GCEDC vice president of operations said, The grant has been sitting idle since.
Genesee Valley Transportation Company consented to give $225,600 in matching finances for the venture.
Masse said, So we (the GCEDC) will not really be out of pocket.
The division of track that includes the venture is an east-west line just south of Dewitt Recreation Area in the city of Batavia. It comprises a spur that runs into the Ag Park, that is between routes 5 and 63 in the town of Batavia.
Steve Hyde, president of the GCEDC, said the intent of the railroad upgrades is to make the Ag Park more better to latent tenants who want to deliver items and materials by train.
The GGLDC deal with Genesee Valley Transportation stipulates the work be finished by 2016 end.
