United States : Ft 22 billion motorway inaugurated on outskirts of Budapest.

A HUF 21.8bn, 12.4km stretch of motorway on the outskirts of Budapest was inaugurated on Monday.

The M31 motorway connects the M3 motorway, which runs to the east, with the M0 ring road around the capital. The stretch was completed in about a year and a half. It was paid for with money left over from the construction of the M0, which was cheaper to build than planned, and from the European Union cohesion fund.

The motorway was presented by National Infrastructure Development Company (NIF) CEO Ferenc Orosz to operator State Motorway Management Company head Attila Bako at the ceremony.

The stretch is expected to cut traffic on the eastern part of the M0 by half from a daily 50,000 vehicles.

The M31 was built by a consortium of Colas Hungaria and Hidepito.
