United States : El Dorado Springs to go solar with city-owned land sale deal.

El Dorado Springs will go solar with its deal to sell city-owned land for a solar farm.

In doing so, El Dorado Springs will join the growing movement by small cities, communities, businesses and homeowners

Following a vote by El Dorado's city council Monday, Dec. 18, a 20-acre section of the city's industrial park near the airport was acquired by MC Power for $100,000.

The council unanimously approved the deal with which MC Power, based in Lee's Summit, can build a solar farm and produce solar energy.

The deal was passed by El Dorado's city attorney and El Dorado Springs will not be required to pay any closing costs.

The agreement also involves the Missouri Public Utility Alliance which suppliers the electrical energy to small towns like El Dorado Springs which operate municipal utilities. El Dorado currently gets the electric power it sells through its city-owned utility from MPUA.

City manager Bruce Rogers said the electrical energy to be produced by the solar farm will likely stay in El Dorado Springs to provide the power which is then marketed to customers of the city's utility service.
